Product Description Ortho-Bionomy is based on the premise that the body inherently knows how to heal and self-correct, given the opportunity. This user-friendly self-help guide by one of the pioneers of the approach presents positions, postures, and movements designed to release tension and ease pain. Not only are the techniques simple to perform, but they can be done on one’s own, without the use of special equipment. Positions for each part of the body are clearly described in lay terms and illustrated with photos and drawings. Selected topics include low back, hip and knee pain, neck, shoulder, and rib releases, repetitive strain injuries, and arthritic pain in the hands. Quick fixes for sciatica, suggestions for dealing with menstrual cramps, and gentle movement exercises to address posture, scoliosis, and flexibility of the spine are just a few among 150 techniques described. The book also includes simple movements and exercises to increase ease, function, strength, and flexibility once the pain has subsided. Rounded out with human-interest stories and client examples, this accessible work can be used quickly and effectively by anyone with pain.

AMAZING January 11, 2010 Michelle Levine 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book is an inspiration, not only from getting to share in the author's incredible life story, but also in that it creates the possibility of reducing/alleviating pain. I was experiencing regular and fairly high intensity pain levels in my foot, and after 15 seconds of the recommended treatment, I was pain free. I have regularly implemented the treatment and have been walking painlessly, and I would like to think a little lighter!
I really appreciate the impact that book has had on me, and I have not even owned it for more than a week. I have been recommending this book to everyone I know in pain!!
Thank you Luann!
Wow! It's great! December 20, 2009 M. N. Roosevelt (Berkeley, CA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
It's fabulous!!!!!! I love everything about it. Two of the things I like most are the stories at the beginning of each chapter, which make it a great read, and the thorough references forward and backward to other chapters and exercises that are linked to each other.
It makes Ortho-Bionomy stronger for having a readily available resource for self-care. For practitioners it is a great review which helps us help ourselves (I'm excited about experiencing each exercise), and gives us the extra confidence to show our clients how to continue the work on themselves. It is also a wonderful presentation of the work as a mindful and self-responsible way to be in the world. It is so full of love and compassion for the learning curve in helping ourselves, with Luann's great examples.
The pictures came out great, and the diagrams help educate without looking complicated. The layout is even calming, with plenty of open space to encourage breathing and relaxation. I can only think that Arthur LIncoln Pauls would be so happy to have his work and spirit presented to the public in such a beautiful way. Very simple, grounded, but with the challenge to be even more comfortable... It's a must have for anyone interested in Ortho-Bionomy and/or self-care.
One jewel of a book January 9, 2010 Gail L. Thompson (Eaton, Ohio) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is one jewel of a book. First and formost the techniques work and you will be amazed. The instructions are clear, concise, and understandable to the average person with no bodywork experience. The photo's show exactly what to do and how to do it. I was really surprised at all the possibilities for self care. It is also a wonderful resource for the practitioner on many levels. I especially appreciated her insightful commentary. The depth and breadth of Luann's experience is a gift to all of us. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the wonderful anatomy drawings. There are some of the best I have ever seen, and what a difference they make to the understanding of this work. I am using the self care techniques myself and I am excited to pass this information on to my clients. If you are familiar with Ortho-Bionomy(R) you know firsthand how amazing this work is, now through Luann's book on self care, it will reach an even wider audience. Luann is a gifted teacher in person or in print. I guarantee that this is one book that you will refer to often and get confidence in your ability to self care.
Ortho-Bionomy A Path to Self-Care January 7, 2010 Lynne Marotta (Leonia, NJ USA) This book is wonderful for just the beginner client through to the most advanced practitioner. The photo's enable a quick recall to an exercise if you are familiar with it. The photo's also make this a wonderful resource if it is new to you as the words walk you through the concepts of the work and the details for each technique.
Bravo Luann and aren't we lucky that you chose to do this book!

Should Be In Every Home's "First Aid Kit" June 22, 2010 Laya (FL) These simple techniques, all of which are well-illustrated, can be so profoundly effective! Overmyer has given us means to relieve many of the dysfunctions that may unnecessarily send us to the doctor or have us on medication. More importantly, (in clear language that anyone can understand) she educates us as to how our bodies work and how they are designed to seek balance and self-healing. I use many of these techniques personally. I also teach them to clients and family members with much success in pain relief and in re-educating the body to more functional use patterns. There's a lotta bang for the buck in this book!
