This book appears simplistic because the diet is! May 16, 2000 Reader (New York, NY) 88 out of 88 found this review helpful
I have been eating the way the book suggests for almost two months. I have lost 15 lbs. with VERY little effort. Some of the comments from other reviewers refer to the books lack of data or specific brands. However, this is what makes the diet so powerful. You don't need to count calories or hunt for specific products. Just eat three meals a day from the large number of items in the book and the weight drops off.The biggest problem I have had is that the two suits I bought right before I started don't fit. Lukily I had some suits from earlier thinner times to wear. I don't really envision ever stopping eating this way. You can go out to dinner, eat full and hearty meals and maintain yourself. I definitely let myself indulge on occasion with "BAD" things that are worth "cheating" with. I have already given this book out to more than 10 people and the cumulative weight loss is very impressive. If you want all the scientific reasoning behind the diet, buy the full books. However, if you are more interested in the how than the why - all you need is this guide. Best of luck - one day soon you hear someone say they can't have nuts because of the fat while they eat white bread. You can chuckle to yourself - It isn't the fat that makes you fat it is the insulin!
All You Really Need to Get Started March 29, 2000 33 out of 33 found this review helpful
I have bought both the sugar busters book and cookbook. However, this book is the most useful. It tells the reader everything you need to do this without all of the scientific data contained in the hardcover book. I have effortlessly lost almost 10 pounds on this diet and am converted. While there are certain things that are forbidden, many more are fine to have. And the things you can have aren't just some diet version of a favorite food but the food itself. Enjoy!

The Doctor was even impressed April 1, 2007 Nina (TN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this book for my mother and she said that it has been extremely helpful. She was told by the doctor to purchase the sugar busters book and while I was on Amazon ordering that book I seen this one. I thought it would be helpful since she has just found out she has a sugar problem and didn't have a clue as to what to buy at the grocery store. Well she just loves it!!! She took it to the doctor with her and he thought it was great and is going to get himself one as well as recomend it now along with the Sugar Busters book. Last I knew she lent it to a neighbor who doesn't seem to want to give it back!!
Good Guidance August 2, 2005 Judith Nagy 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book guides you through the maze of brands and "buy"-s and "do not buy"-s for diabetics, or anyone who has to watch their carbs. The only draw back is, that many brands the book recommends, for example breads are not available in the supermarkets I shop.
